There are several varieties of blackberries produced in the world depending on their types of cultivation. Here are the different types of blackberries depending on their cultivation type:

• Hybrid:By cross cultivating two types of blackberries, 'Chehalem' and 'Olallie', different hybrid cultivars of blackberries are produced. Some of the most popular types of hybrid blackberries are Black Diamond, Nightfall, Black Pearl, Obsidian, and Metolius.
• Trailing:The trailing blackberries are like vines and require a trellis for support during growth. These do not have the hard stems like erect blackberries and cannot stand on their own. Some of the common trailing blackberries are Boysenberries, Marionberries, and Olallieberries.
• Erect:Some of the cultivators in the University of Arkansas have produced a variety of erect blackberries. The new canes in these berries are produced from the root initials and are even disease resistant and thornless. Some of the commonly found erect blackberries are Arapaho, Black Satin, Navaho, Cherokee, Kiowa, and Apache.
• Primocane:The only difference between primocane and erect blackberries is that the canes of primocane blackberry bear fruit in the fall after they have flowered in the mid-summer. It has the highest quality as it ripens in cool climate. The most common primocane blackberry is Illini Hardy.
• Thornless:These are the semi-erect blackberry plants that are prickle-free or thornless. They need a trellis for support and are crown forming plants. Some of the commonly cultivated thornless blackberries are Chester Thornless, Dirksen Thornless, Hull Thornless, Loch Maree, Loch Ness, Loch Tay, Merton Thornless, Smoothstem, and Triple Crown.
